Gomberg to Release Platform Plank on Restoring The River.

Today, on Saturday, October 3, 1998 Tooker Gomberg will unveil the Gomberg For Mayor platform plank on Restoring The River. The time and location for this event is described below.

“Edmontonians identify deeply with the river” says Gomberg. “Throughout human history the North Saskatchewan River has been pivotal to life in this part of the world. But in the last century we have treated it more like a sewer than our lifeblood. Yes, in the past few years we have managed to lighten our impact somewhat. But Edmontonians yearn for much more to be done.”

Gomberg will unveil a platform plank on restoring the river to health, and bringing back its former prominence as the signature of Edmonton. The plank will also touch on how to make it easier for Edmontonians to come back to the river and appreciate its splendor and significance.

As well the platform plank will address the issue of quality drinking water for all Edmontonians; how to save millions of dollars and increase water conservation activities; and how to reduce road runoff and sewer impacts on river quality. As noted in today’s Edmonton Journal, page 1, river pollution is serious, and there are strong calls for immediate action.
