Media Release: The Future of Edmonton Power

September 10, 1998.

The Future Of Edmonton Power.

On Friday September 11, 1998 at 10 a.m. at the main entrance to Edmonton Power’s Rossdale Power Plant (just north of the north end of the 105 Street Bridge) Tooker Gomberg will present his campaign platform plank on the future of Edmonton Power.

Using props Gomberg will:

  • Offer compelling arguments for retaining citizen ownership of the company;
  • Illustrate how Edmonton Power could quickly and easily address fears of impending blackouts without spending $90 million on an expansion at Rossdale;
  • Provide insights into the Kyoto agreement, and how Edmonton Power could help Edmonton meet our international commitments to reduce Greenhouse Gases;
  • Outline how Edmonton Power could become a leader by investing in energy efficiency and in the process turn a tidy profit.

Gomberg has twenty years experience studying and understanding the energy industry. As City Councillor he spent three years as shareholder of the company, and was instrumental in Edmonton Power undertaking a major renovation of their headquarters. This resulted in substantial energy and dollar savings as well as significant media and public interest in the solar photovoltaic (pv) panels that they installed on the roof.
