Toronto – (November 2, 2000)
At a news conference at 10:30 a.m. today Mayoralty Candidate Tooker Gomberg will unveil his platform plank on the arts: A Vision for the Arts. The news conference will take place in front of a mural located on the northeast corner of Markham and Queen.
“The arts are the soul of a city. Strip away the arts, and Toronto would be a sorry place. As mayor I will work with the arts community to foster a vibrant arts scene. That’s what I did as City Councillor in Edmonton.”
“Instead of criminalizing people who want to paint on buildings I would make it easy for murals and street art to appear. Why turn our public space into commercial advertisements when instead we could add murals and sculpture to nourish our hopes and dreams?”
